Tesla Model S: Seal - Steering Rack (Remove and Replace)
Removal
- Raise and support the vehicle (refer to procedure).
Warning: Do not work on an incorrectly supported
vehicle.
- Remove upper intermediate steering shaft (refer to procedure)
- Remove steering rack dash seal from shaft.
Installation
- Installation procedure reverse of removal, except for the
following:
- Ensure the intermediate shaft to pinion marking align correctly.
- Check front toe alignment.

Remove the underhood storage unit for access (refer to
procedure).
Mark the lower intermediate shaft position relative to the upper
intermediate shaft and pinion.

Warning: If the 12V power supply is disconnected, do
not attempt to open any doors with door glass in closed
position. Failure to follow this instruction could result in
door glass shat

Remove the driver's side footwell cover (refer to procedure).
Disconnect the lower intermediate shaft (refer to procedure).

Check
Close panoramic roof glass using touch screen.
Connect a laptop with Toolbox to the vehicle.
In Toolbox, select Views > Body/Security >
Panoramic Sunroof, then select "Calibrate". The sunroof opens and
closes.
When calibration is complete
To preserve the cosmetic appearance of the body when
Model S is not being used, use a genuine Tesla car cover.
Car covers can be purchased from Tesla. See Parts and
Accessories.

when Model S is plugged in. Using a non-Tesla car
