Tesla Model S: Fluids and Capacities

Fluids

Air conditioning

Depending on its intended sales region, the air conditioning system is filled with R134a or 1234yf refrigerant. Refer to the label on the RH frunk trim.

If oil needs to be added to the system, use only POE ND-11 or equivalent.

Caution: Do not mix different types of A/C system oil. Model S, Roadster 1.5 and Roadster 2.0/2.5 all use different oils. Model S and Model X use the same A/C system oil.

If ultraviolet dye needs to be added to the system to troubleshoot a leak, use only Tracerline Tracer-Stick TP-3811 (Hybrid / POE) dye.

Antifreeze solutions

The cooling system contains an ethylene glycol (phosphate and nitrate free) based coolant.

Tesla G-48 coolant (part number 1012820-00-A) is a pre-mixed 50/50 solution of antifreeze and water. The coolant is ready to use. Do not add water.

Caution: Do not top-up or refill the cooling system with any other type of coolant.

Antifreeze concentration

The overall antifreeze concentration should not fall below 50% by volume to ensure that the anti-corrosion properties of the coolant are maintained. Antifreeze concentrations greater than 60% are not recommended as cooling efficiency will be impaired.

Tesla G-48 coolant (part number 1012820-00-A) is a pre-mixed 50/50 solution of antifreeze and water. The coolant is ready to use. Do not add water.

Brake - Fluid

DOT 3. Dow 372LB (part number 1060099-00-A) is recommended to prevent squeaking from the master cylinder as the brakes are applied. Only use new fluid from sealed containers.

Electrical Joint Compound

Penetrox A-13 electrical joint compound (part number 2006271).

Transmission fluid

Front drive unit part number 1035000-00-F and earlier: Mobil SHC 629

Front drive unit part number 1035000-00-J and later: DEXRON VI (DEXRON 6) automatic transmission fluid

Rear drive unit (small and large): DEXRON VI (DEXRON 6) automatic transmission fluid

Washer fluid

Tesla Windshield Wash, part number 6005944-00-A (1 gallon) or 1061464-00-A (drum).
